Construction is ongoing for the residential campus, Phase 2 (10 ac) at IIT Gandhinagar developed through the collective efforts of a multi-disciplinary team selected through a competitive process. The green campus design seeks to promote pedestrian and non-motorised systems for student movement in a hot and dry climate. Continuous covered walkways, mutually shaded passageways and planted green promenades dominate the landscape design for the campus. Building on the tenets of green design, non-mechanized and passive systems of building orientation and cooling are key to the design, with landscape playing a vital role in shading the built environment. With 100% of the landscape water requirement coming from recycled water, the campus aims to earn a 4-5 star GRIHA rating.
