AGUA FRIA WATERCOURSE MASTER PLAN

A multidisciplinary effort to analyze an alternative proposal to channelize the Agua Fria River particularly along heavily mined stretches of the river that were subject to severe erosion and lateral migration. Collaborated with the Arizona Rock Products Association, Stakeholders and the District, to arrive at a shared vision for the river. High risk and low risk terracing coinciding with the 10 year and 100 year flood levels were designated. Detailed simulations were prepared depicting the extent of flooding in the channel. Extensive public and stakeholder outreach won support for the project and a special recreational corridor channelization district was formed to address a unified way to implement the channelization alternative within different jurisdictions. Extensive alternative evaluation was conducted through a comprehensive process set up by the Flood Control District, Maricopa County, Arizona. This project was completed while at EDAW | AECOM, Phoenix, AZ.
